Our Mission

Village Church South Belfast desires to be a Gospel shaped community of people who love Jesus, each other, and our city of Belfast as we join God in the renewal of all things.

What we believe about God,
the Bible and the World.

God

There is one God, who exists, always has existed, and always will exist in three equal yet distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In his love, justice, wisdom and love, God never changes. He created everything in the universe and controls everything that he has made.

The Bible

God has revealed Himself in the Bible, which consists of the Old and New Testaments alone. Every word written by the human authors was inspired by God, so that the Bible as it was originally written is the Word of God, without error and fully reliable. As the Word of God, the Bible is our ultimate authority for what we believe, teach and do.

Human Beings

All people are created by God in his image and so have inherent dignity and value. The greatest purpose of every person is to love, worship and enjoy God. However, as a result of sin entering our world, every aspect of human nature has been corrupted and all people are born separated from God, without spiritual life, and in rebellion to Him. Because of his perfect justice God will punish sin and so we all need to receive new life, be forgiven, and be reconciled to God in order to love, worship and enjoy Him.

The Lord Jesus Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is God’s eternal Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit with a virgin mum. He is the only person to have ever lived a life without sin. He died on the cross to receive the punishment for our sin, defeat evil, and reconcile us to God.

He was buried, but on the third day he rose from the dead as the victorious Saviour. He ascended to heaven in his resurrected human body, where he is now exalted as Lord of all.

Salvation

Salvation is entirely a work of God’s grace; cannot be earned and is not deserved. It has been accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection. In His love God forgives sinners, whom He calls to himself, giving them repentance and faith. All who believe in Christ are made right with God only by faith in Jesus, adopted into the family of God and receive eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

God the Holy Spirit leads us to repent and believe in Jesus, grants us new life, and unites us with Christ. He lives in all Christians and it is only by his power that we are able to live in the way Jesus calls us to.

The Church

All who are saved belong to the universal Church, which is the body of Christ and he is her head.

The Church is expressed in local churches, which are congregations of believers who are committed to each other for the worship of God, the preaching of the Word, the administering of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, for pastoral care and discipline, and for evangelism. The unity of the body of Christ is expressed within and between churches by mutual love, care and encouragement.

The Future

One day the Lord Jesus Christ will physically return to earth. He will raise the dead and judge the world in perfect justice. Those who have not believed in Him will be sent to eternal punishment and separation from God, while believers will be welcomed into eternal joy and togetherness with God. God will make all things new and will be glorified forever.
